I had a virus on my laptop last week and consequently had to format the C drive. The trouble is that I now can't access the CD-ROM drive to reinstall Windows. Can you help?
The laptop manufacturer should have provided a boot disk with the Windows CD-ROM, which you can boot from in order to begin the setup process. Alternatively you could boot from the emergency startup disk that you created from Windows. If you are running Windows 98 or later this will contain a CD-ROM driver. If you have neither a Windows boot disk nor one you've created yourself, try using an emergency startup disk created on another computer running the same version of Windows. See tip Can't access backup files after virus infection.
